Tsuge Thunderstorm pipes are made with briar (a heatproof wood that does not change tobacco's taste) wrapped in metal (golden, black or silvery depending on the models). These pipes might look surprising if you are used to classic models.
With this collection, Tsuge wanted to create a pipe that can be smoked when it is windy outside. The idea was therefore to design a folding screen to protect the top of the bowl and prevent the ashes from going out of the tobacco chamber. It would also help the tobacco not to burn too quickly. To do so, craftspeople created a movable part to protect the inside of the bowl. When it is windy, you can therefore slide the outer cladding upwards. Thanks to this ingenious system, Tsuge Thunderstorm pipes are very convenient.
