As with all pipes, use pipe cleaners to remove tar residue from the stem and shank.

For the meerschaum portion, be very gentle. Although heat-resistant, meerschaum is more fragile than briar during cleaning. Do not scrape it with a tamper or reamer. After each smoke, fold a soft cotton pipe cleaner in half and gently wipe the inside of the bowl. This simple technique protects the lining while keeping your hands clean.

Important: never use liquid cleaners, as they can permanently damage the meerschaum.
