Tevina, a series of high-end pipes designed by Kikuchi Asami:

Tevina pipes are designed and manufactured by Asami Kikuchi, an extremely talented Japanese artist. However, nothing predestined her to work in the world of pipes. Her passion for wood (and in particular the creation of small objects called Teasobi) led her directly to the Tsuge workshop in 2012. The story is unusual in that she was spotted by the Tsuge family while she was completing her final project at the University of Tokyo. It was a professor, a friend of Kyozaburo Tsuge's wife, who was captivated by her creativity and brought Asami to the workshop. For her, it was a revelation, as she would be able to create pipes that were both practical and aesthetic. Thanks to the wise advice of Kazuhiro Fukuda, she was able to learn all the tricks of the trade and, within a few years, became one of the best pipe makers in the world. She now even works for the prestigious Tsuge Ikebana collection!

Finding the perfect balance: the idea behind the Tsuge Tevina pipe

Like the Tsuge Ikebana pipes, the "made in Japan" pipes in the Tevina collection are unique, handcrafted creations. Each handmade model has its own freehand shape. However, when you look at one of these pipes, you can recognise Asami Kikuchi's style with its flowing lines and organic shapes. Some people like to say that these pipes seem to have been sculpted by nature itself, like a pebble gently polished by time and erosion. The most surprising thing about Tevina pipes is not so much their shape but their balance! At first glance, you might think they need support to stand upright without tipping over... but no! Once placed, the pipe may sway slightly from side to side (or back and forth), but it always finds its balance point on its own. Impressive and fascinating!

Founded in Japan in the 1930s, Tsuge is now one of the most respected names in the world of handcrafted pipes. The workshop, located in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, has established itself as an international benchmark thanks to the impeccable quality of its briar pipes. For more than forty years, master pipe maker Kazuhiro Fukuda has trained new generations of craftsmen. Among them, Ms Kikuchi Asami not only learned the art of pipe making at his side, but also brought her fresh perspective and artistic sensibility to the Ikebana and Tevina collections. Today, the Tsuge workshop embodies the pinnacle of Japanese pipe making, combining art, precision and respect for tradition.
