Big Ben likes to say, with good reason, that when you smoke a Shepherd, the world fades away to make way for the present moment...
In almost 150 years, Big Ben pipes have become a benchmark among smokers. Don't be fooled by the name - the workshop is actually located in the Netherlands, and not in England as you might think. Elbert Gubbels has been running the factory since 1989. According to him, the pipe is totally in tune with the world we live in. It allows us to find a little moment of tranquillity, peace and serenity when we are constantly running to the right and left in our daily lives.
All Big Ben Shepherd pipes are short pipes fitted with a real horn stem and a 6-mm filter. They are soft to smoke because each model has been made from briar that has been dried for a long time under optimum conditions (this is very important!). As well as being very light in the mouth, these pipes are practical to slip in a pocket (and therefore to take with you) as they don't require much space. In this range, all the pipes are Haïti (bulldog) shaped, straight or curved depending on the model. What's more, the craftsmen have simply applied a thin layer of wax to preserve the purity of the wood. In short, if you're looking for a short pipe with a comfortable stem and, if possible, a filter, the Big Ben Shepherd is clearly the one for you!
